When it comes to human trafficking, the Cubans are our brothers in affliction; along with Belize and Venezuela they've gotten a tier three human trafficking rating from the United States. Greater sanctions could hardly matter to them, but they could mean much to us, and perhaps as a palliative, Cuba is reaching out to Belize.

150 Belizean students are already in Cuba, 20 of them studying medicine, and now the Cuban government is inviting Belizeans to pursue studies in other areas. The Cuban Embassy today announced that it will be offering 9 scholarships at the bachelors degree level for students pursuing courses in physical education and sports, math, humanities, primary education, electrical engineering and computer science. The scholarship will cover tuition, fees, room and board as well as books.

If you're interested, you can find application forms at the District Education Centers. Deadline for submissions is July 24th.
