Hertular says that yesterday evening police picked him up as a suspect in the purse snatching and took him to the CIB Office at the queen street station. Hertular says while there police tried to beat a confession out of him. He says they couldn't and he was held there overnight. This morning he was charged with theft and this afternoon he was released on bail. His first stop was our studious to detail his experience which includes having a gun placed down his throat.

Dennis Hertular, Alleges Police Brutality
"They held me down and chanced me right. They held me down, handcuffed me behind a chair and thing, and they brutalized me with the back of a board. They whapped (hit) me up on my foot and they wanted me to tell them that I robbed those persons and I was telling them it wasn't me and they wanted to hear that out of my mouth. They wanted me to admit that I did the crime and I was telling them I didn't do this crime. So they handcuffed me and they brutalized me with the back of a board on the two side of my legs. They whapped me up.

Only me and them were in the room and the rest of police officers came out of the room and only me and them were there so they hit me up with the back of the board. The they then took an iron thing and whapped me up with it to my side here, you this mark it left right, and my feet are paining me and thing so all I want is justice. I want court action because dah chance deh the chance me."

Keith Swift,
People at home would say the police aren't crazy. There must have been a reason why they picked you up.

Dennis Hertular,
"Well they didn't target me. Somebody out there made the complaint that they have an idea it was me, that Hertular did this crime. So they came and they picked me up but I was explaining to them it wasn't me. It is somebody wrong they are accusing. I didn't do this crime because I am working. I am a sea man."

Hertular claims he was home at the time of the robbery. He plans to lodge a formal complaint with the police's Internal Affairs Department.
