He is only sixteen but yesterday a teenage boy was old enough to be charged for having sex with a teenage girl. We won't release the name of the accused because of his age, but he is charged for having sex on multiple occasions with a 13-year-old girl dating back to December of 2005.
He appeared before Family Court Magistrate Edd P. Usher yesterday where he pleaded guilty. Despite objections from the prosecutor who argued that carnal knowledge was an indictable matter and therefore no plea could be taken, Usher accepted the plea.
The prosecutor's objection is notable because the DPP's office is awaiting a ruling from the Supreme Court on the jurisdiction of Family Court Magistrate's to accept guilty pleas from minors in indictable offenses.
Nevertheless the 16 year old is at the Hattieville Boot Camp tonight and will be sentenced on August 31st.
