On Monday the Belize Electric Company Limited, BECOL, reported that the Chalillo Dam was at 93% capacity. As a result of continued rains in the Mountain Pine Ridge area, today BECOL reports that as of 1:58 the dam is at 100% capacity or 124 million cubic meters of water stored. All excess water is reportedly spilling over the spillway at the dam and residents down stream are expected to experience modest increases in water flow on the Macal River. No floods are expected however as the Chalillo dam is designed to throttle water overflow.
