On Friday we told you about the passing of street character Jacqueline Thomas, known across the city as Jackie. It was no ordinary death because her family says Jackie was killed by a hit and run driver who knocked down the 38 year old drifter four months ago. A post mortem was conducted on Jackie today and it confirms what her family says. A death certificate issued by police pathologist Mario Estradabran certified the cause of death as being trauma due to a road traffic accident. That finding has fired up her family who have been begging police to investigate for four months. Police however have been saying it is just a case of sudden death, for which no one is to blame. Today those emotions boiled over at the KHMH morgue and her sister Deborah Arzu-Young vented.
Deborah Arzu-Young, Sister of Deceased
"I am very disgusted about this and I am going to seek assistance because I think they should be assistance for the poor and for the mentally retarded because they have equal rights. She is a citizen of this country as well."
Alfonso Noble,
You know for a fact though that she was knocked down?
Deborah Arzu-Young,
"Yes she was. She was knocked down. All the left side of her breast and her whole leg was torn off. Her breast was almost torn off. She was badly hurt. She couldn't walk, she couldn't even move and they say she might have fallen and she just couldn't move at all up to the time of her death. It really pains me. Had it been Mr. John Doe Aristocrat, they would have looked after her as quick as possible and all investigations would have been done."
Despite the family's outrage, Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid says the police investigation has been completed and the case is closed. He says it will now be for the DPP to decide.
