This evening at 5:00 pm, Chairman of the DFC Commission of Inquiry David Price was flown to Cuba for emergency medical treatment. He was hospitalized last week Thursday, and he became gravely ill over the weekend. That's when his family decided to try and get him to Cuba and went to see the Prime Minister.
Rt. Hon. Said Musa, Prime Minister
"Mr. Price apparently, his health deteriorated over the last two days and the family has approached us to assist in getting him out of the country because apparently not much more can be done in Belize and so we are making arrangements to fly him out to Cuba, I don't know how far advanced that is. The Cuban authorities, up to two nights ago when the Cabinet Secretary spoke with them, wanted to see the exact diagnostic data before they can give an evaluation of whether they can do anything themselves. I am hoping that they will receive him and that we will be able to fly him out very shortly."
Jules Vasquez,
So where does that leave the Commission of Inquiry?
Rt. Hon. Said Musa,
"My understanding is, from the Attorney General's Ministry, is that the remaining two members can complete the work and I am hoping that they will. I don't see the need to appoint another Chairman. I think we can have two co-chairman, after all one was appointed by the government and the other one by the social partners."
This evening, co-chair Merlene Martinez said she had not yet been advised of the Prime Minister's plan and that, presently, she and Commissioner Lord have not discussed plans to proceed. The Prime Minister told us he became involved.
