Today notorious crime figure, 27 year old Carlos Escalante was charged for yesterday morning's murder of BWSL security guard Fortunato Chun.
His notoriety is well earned; this is the fourth time in a decade that Escalante has been charged for murder.
He beat the rap in three previous cases.
But the man in charge of the investigation, second in charge at Belize City's CIB Office, Inspector Alden Dawson says he won't get away this time….

We were able to make that arrest with the assistance of the public, the investigation pointed in his direction and we have enough evidence hence the reason we made the arrest. Of course, he's no new person; he had some run in with the police on several occasions prior to this arrest.

I am not in a position to say if he is a person of sound mind; he appears to be.

People criticize the CIB office saying that you all are making statistical arrests, that you all don't really have the evidence of a conviction. How do you respond to that criticism?
Inspector Alden Dawson
_I am the deputy here and I am intimately involved with all the cases and I'm sure that all the arrests, we have the evidence to take before the court.
_Police say Escalante acted alone and shot Chun with a 38 revolver while he stole the guard's nine millimeter pistol. Neither gun has been recovered.
Escalante has been remanded to the Hattieville Prison. He also goes by the name Fabian Bain.
Under one name or the other has been charged for three previous murders. The first was 1996, when he was accused of clubbing his own grandfather to death. He famously got off on that charge on an insanity plea. Then in 1999, he was accused of killing Chinese grocer Lee Yong Chong. He got off on that, and re-emerged in July of 2003, when he was accused of teaming up with Mark T-Dog Stuart to kill Dean Belisle. In 2004, that case also fell apart.
