He was originally charged with murder for killing 21-year-old Wasani Belgrave in the Yarborough area of Belize City in May of 2005. Today Alex Palacio appeared in the Supreme Court where he pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter. After his plea we spoke to Belgrave's mother Cecilia Lewis. She did not wish to appear on camera but she says that with his admission of guilt she'll try to start the long process of recovery.

"I know to myself that he killed her and he knows, admitted to himself that he killed him. In court he admitted that he killed her and well he is going to spend some time for it. I can't bring him back and the pain won't stop. The pain won't stop, I can't bring him back but at least I feel happy that he is going to go sit down back there (prison) for it. I know he is sorry for what he already did but what he did can't erase nothing from me. He could never erase my pain but after nearly two years I am still with the same like it happened today."
Alex Palacio will be sentenced on Friday when his attorney Hubert Elrington will present mitigation pleas.
