A discarded newborn baby boy was found floating in the canal along North Creek on Saturday morning. The corpse was discovered by a sanitation worker shortly after 8 am. The child had a full head of hair, his hands and feet were fully formed, and his umbilical cord was still attached. Police are awaiting the results of a post mortem to determine if the child was stillborn or if it was a live birth which was abandoned. We spoke to one resident who told us off-camera that at first they thought it was a doll.
Area Resident,
"We think it was a dolly because his head looked like a dolly. I couldn't make out if it was a baby and when I went close to see the baby, he had hair on his head, his hands and his feet and everything were already formed, and the navel string was hanging. So it is somebody who had a baby and they cut the navel string. So it was really sad to see all of that because I got cold seed and everything and to see the little girls standing up and watching that, it doesn't set a good example for them - maybe they could decide to do the same and no one will know. I am not saying it is anyone from around here because I don't see anyone around here pregnant."
A post mortem is scheduled for tomorrow.
