There's big news coming out of the citrus belt tonight after another general meeting and another dramatic shift of power.

You'll recall that on February third, after a raucous special general meeting of the Citrus Growers Association, a mostly new committee of management was elected. They were a group that promised much in the way of reform and resistance to a foreign buyout, but tonight they are history.

That's right, at the annual general meeting on Saturday over 200 members voted to get rid of the February Committee and elect a new one. 14 persons offered themselves - including 5 of the 9 members of the February Committee that had just been ousted.

3 of the February group were re-elected - but all are considered moderates - and one of them Frank Redmond will be the new Chairman. Notably Denzil Jenkins and Rick Escalante who bitterly opposed the sale to Banks Holdings both failed to gain re-election to the new board. Assisting Frank Redmond as Chairman is Chuck Woods as vice Chairman.

The meeting lasted from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.
