7NEWS has confirmed that the senior command of the Police Department is investigating a report of rape made against a senior police officer. The allegation is being made by a woman constable who alleges that she was raped by her then officer commanding in September.
Reports are that last night, she made the complaint to officer Commanding eastern division, Assistant Commissioner Crispin Jeffries. Today Deputy Commissioner Maureen Leslie was also in the city getting details on the report, but we could not reach her for comment.
Apparently, the woman constable is being transferred from the command of the officer she is accusing and the timing of the report as well as the fact that it is alleged to have happened 6 months ago - has spurred police to ensure first that it is not a malicious report.
It is being treated as sensitive and that will have some bearing on whether charges are brought.
