Gunfire rang out all across the southside around 10 last night and this late model Isuzu Rodeo was the cause of it.

Police first spotted the white Isuzu Rodeo without license plates on Caesar Ridge Road. Because it had no plates, the patrol team indicated to the driver that he must pull over. But instead of stopping, one of the passengers stuck a pistol through the window and fired at police.

The Rodeo sped off and high tailed across the southside, crossing the Belcan Bridge and then crossing back over the Bel-China Bridge. A number of police mobiles pursued it and there was a continued and heated exchange of gunfire. Still police could not catch up until it turned into Lindo's Alley off Vernon Street.

By that time everyone inside had bailed out but police did manage to detain two men who were seen circling the area a short time after. Both of those detainees have been released, but information to 7NEWS is that a relative who owns the Rodeo is cooperating with police and charges may follow.

The chief suspects are believed to live in the area of Lindo's Alley.
