Well known contractor David Courtenay died this morning in a traffic accident.

At around 5:00 this morning, the 45 year old was traveling eastbound on the Western Highway, heading towards Belize City when he ran off the road between mile 20 and 21. Courtenay crashed into a lamppost which was shattered by the impact.
It is believed that after the massive impact his Toyota Land Cruiser spontaneously combusted. Residents of a nearby home report that by the time they got to the scene, the vehicle was engulfed in flames. His body was completely burned and dental records had to be sourced to confirm his identity.
Though well known in construction for twenty years, he came to new prominence recently as the former deputy chair of the DFC.
Courtenay was the brother of Trade and Foreign Affairs Minister Eamon Courtenay and the father of five children.
