Tonight, the 38 foot catamaran called 'Sun Jam' is off the reef adjoining the Half Moon Caye National Monument.
A multi agency team led by the Audubon Society did an on site assessment yesterday and captured these images for us. After checking the vessel's position on the reef, they ok'd a plan for a tug to head out this morning and pull the 'Sun Jam' off what is known as the fringing reef. We are told that the tug successfully removed it sometime this afternoon.
Indications are that reckless night-time navigation by captain David Lucknor may have caused the 'Sun Jam' to run aground.
The vessel is still in Belizean waters possibly in need of repairs. The Port Authority and the Department of Environment will determine if fines will be assessed.
