A man was beaten to death inside the holding cell at the Orange Walk Police Station on Sunday and police say a 17-year-old detainee is responsible. The dead man's name is 30 year old Nelson Castellanos - a Guatemalan national. He was found dead at 1:15 on Sunday morning.

Reports from Orange Walk are that Castellanos first came in contact with police last week. He was picked up for an immigration offense late last week. He was held until Saturday morning when he was released because 48 hours had passed with no charges. He was rearrested later on Saturday for an attempted burglary.

And that's how Castellanos found himself in the holding cell with other prisoners on Sunday morning. He last seen alive at 10 pm on Saturday and was discovered dead at 1 am when there was a change of shift.

The allegation is that Castellanos threw his feaces on other prisoners. He was found with his face swollen and showed signs of being beaten. Latest information suggests that he had been beaten from when he was detained earlier in the week.

A 17 year old is expected to be charged for killing him tomorrow.
