A Chinese grocer was the victim of a brutal homicide in Santa Elena Town this morning. Around 9:30 this morning, a lone gunman went into P.K. on George Price Avenue and assaulted this man, 43 year old owner Guo Quiang Su.
Reports are that the unmasked man had a gun and he first pulled the door shut, and then went behind the counter and helped himself to whatever was in the cash pan. But police believe that it is after he got the money, that he shot Su once to the forehead, and ran out.
The store sits on the banks of the Macal River and police believe that he fled along the riverside.
And though he had been shot to the head, Su, didn't die immediately; he was taken to the San Ignacio Hospital where the doctors on duty were trying to get him to the Belmopan Hospital when he died.
According to the Cayo Star, Su's family had gone on vacation recently leaving him alone in the store. It is a store that has seen two previous armed robberies. This picture is from January of this year, after a pair of robbers clubbed Su over the head with a handgun as they were robbing him. And that January robbery had been preceded by another in February of 2006.
Cayo police have been scouring the banks of the Macal River but have made no arrests. It is the first murder in the twin towns of San Ignacio and Santa Elena for 2007.
