His mother says he was stabbed 62 times in the back, in addition to being stabbed in his head and shoulder. But amazingly, 24 year-old Jermaine Jones is still alive tonight. Jones was at a party late Saturday night on Gibnut Street when he was allegedly attacked by two brothers. His mother Dawn Jones says Jermaine is a fishermen and he had just come in from sea when the attack occurred.
Dawn Jones, Mother of Stabbing Victim
"He said to give him 5 minutes and he would be back. In that five minutes he went and he didn't come back and during that time I heard voices and then when I got the understanding that he went to a party at 123rd and while he was there, two guys came to him and asked him if he wanted to buy weed and he went with them and when they went all he felt was a burning in the stomach and he was turning around and when he turned around going back through the gate, that is the time when he was attacked from the back. So he got 62 stabs in the back."
Keith Swift,
62 stabs?
Dawn Jones,
"62 stabs, even the doctor says it is a miracle he survived. But what I feel made him survive 62 stabs is because he is a fisherman and salt water numbed his skin."
Keith Swift,
When did he get stab? When he was walking with them to go and buy the weed?
Dawn Jones,
"When he was coming out. He went with them because the two guys told him that they were going to buy something and he went with them and when he went with them, I don't know what went among the three of them but when he was coming out from it, I understand that the two guys started to quarrel with him and then he came out walking and one held him down and the other one attacked him from backway and stabbed him.
I don't really know what to say but Jermaine didn't have a fuss with anyone. He just came in from sea and he was hanging out but he didn't have a misunderstanding with anyone because he had just left me, not even 5 minutes."
Police are seeking two suspects and investigations continue. Coincidentally, or incidentally, two other men were stabbed in the Banak Street area on Saturday. They are Norman Brooks and Jeremy Audinett. Both were treated for injuries at the KHMH.
