And while police search for Jerry Smart’s killers, the manhunt for George “Junie Balls” McKenzie’s killer ended this morning at 9:45. That’s when 20-year-old Edward Lord surrendered to police in the company of his lawyer – Senior Counsel Ellis Arnold. Lord is accused of shooting the once feared and legendary gangster, “Junie Balls” McKenzie around 10 pm on Monday at the entrance to Pink’s Alley. Lord was taken to Magistrate’s Court this afternoon where he was formally charged for murder. CIB Chief Aaron Guzman says they still don’t have a motive because Lord isn’t talking.
Supt. Aaron Guzman,
“Today at 9:45 am, Edward Emmanuel Lord was brought in by his attorney, Mr. Ellis Arnold, and he was formally arrested and charged for the murder of George McKenzie. The investigation right now based on the evidence we gathered pointed to Mr. Lord. However as I told you before, his attorney brought him in and he was cautioned and he remained silent. So from him, we’ve not received anything and I would not like to speculate at this time openly what we believe to be the motive.”
Lord appeared in court this afternoon and was denied bail and remanded to the Hattieville Prison until October 16th. Senior Superintendent Chester Williams disclosed at this afternoon’s press conference that Tuesday night’s shooting of Mark Flowers on Mahogany Street was in retaliation for the “Junie Balls” McKenzie murder.
As we reported, Flowers was shot in his buttocks by a man wearing a ski mask. Police quickly responded and arrested Lucius Myers who has since been charged with attempted murder. CIB Chief Aaron Guzman says the investigation into “Junie Balls” McKenzie isn’t closed and that they are still investigation whether anyone else was involved. George “Junie Balls” McKenzie will be buried on Sunday.
