Yesterday, 44-year-old Marcel Young went to the police substation on Dean Street to report that his flashlight had been stolen. But instead, he’s the one who ended up being charged for theft – not of the flashlight but of a policeman’s jacket. Corporal Glenda Tucker reported that she left the jacket on the counter at the station – just about the time young was in there. She went to help move a vehicle that had stalled in the flood, and when she returned the jacket and young were gone.
He was found a short time later wearing the jacket on Orange Street. Young told police he had borrowed it because it was raining. In court today, he pleaded guilty to theft and was sentenced to three years by Magistrate Roberto Ordonez. The Magistrate said he had to impose a custodial sentence because police work hard during bad weather to protect citizen’s property.
