Fire destroyed a home last night in the Antelope Street Extension area and the owner says it was arson. Sylvia White lived in the two storey wooden house with her two young children but she wasn't home at the time of the fire. The house is owned by George Carr, but he rents it out. We spoke to both Carr and White.
George Carr, Home Owner
"I was at home about 10 to 10:15 watching the news and I heard my name being shouted outside. Upon peeking outside I saw one of my friends and he told me the house was on fire. So I immediately got my clothes on and I went up there. Upon reaching back there I saw the house in flame and I asked some few questions and its nothing that I really wanted to hear."
Keith Swift,
Everything was destroyed?
George Carr,
"Yeah, everything was destroyed. The house was still standing but the outer appearance of the house totally destroyed."
Sylvia White, Fire Victim
"When I reached there last night, well you can't see nothing because it's dark so this morning about five o'clock when I went there, everything was burnt. I know me and my daughter's father were going through changes but he came there this morning in front of me and said it wasn't he who did it so we have to investigate first to find out what really went on because they set it on fire because no light or current or water is there."
Keith Swift,
You didn't leave on a candle?
Sylvia White,
"No because I wasn't staying there."
Keith Swift,
What are you going to do?
Sylvia White,
"I don't know. I guess try work or try buy it back. I don't know what I will do yet but I have to stay with my mom for the meantime. Everything we lost; clothes, new stove, new gas tank - everything I lost. I had draws with clothes which I had just bought for my two children, for myself, and everything gone."
Police and fire officials are investigating. Anyone interested in helping Sylvia White and her two young children can contact her at 624-0115.
