A week ago police shot Wilfred Dixon in his back during an exchange of fire and today we learnt that because of those gunshot injuries, Dixon may never walk again. He is still hospitalized at the KHMH under police guard but today for the first time his family spoke out.

As we reported, last week Monday night Dixon was riding his bike near the corner of West Collet Canal and Neal Penn Road when officers in a police mobile ordered him to stop. Police claim that instead of stopping, Dixon opened fire. It would take three police mobile units and a bullet to Dixon's back and another to his right side before he was finally subdued. He has been hospitalized since but today his girlfriend Graciela Castillo and his sister-in-law Geraldine Castillo say he is innocent. Graciela says Dixon had no gun. She is so sure because she was with him in the moments before the shooting.

Graciela Castillo, Dixon's Girlfriend
"They shot the bwoy in his back two times. If he was shooting at them and he had his hand backways, one of them would have been shot."

Keith Swift,
They said he was riding suspiciously.

Graciela Castillo,
"Suspiciously? No. That doesn't give them reason to shoot him in the back. Why would they shoot him in the back. From the time you shoot a man in the back, he is running from you."

Keith Swift,
They said he was firing shots at them?

Graciela Castillo,
"Wrong. He wasn't firing any shots because he had no gun because I was with him. I was with him."

Geraldine Castillo,
"They already damage the young boy, don't charge him for attempted murder. If they know they did wrong, why would they charge him. Let him recover peacefully because its not like we can do anything about it because the police run the system."

As for Dixon, we couldn't get a comment from him because he is under police guard pending charges. But police did comment. Acting Press Officer Bart Jones says a gun was found on Dixon. He adds that if Graciela Castillo is a witness, the best thing she can do is go to the Police Department and make a statement.
