A police officer says that a Belize City man pulled a gun on him and today that man went to court. At about 3:00 am on Friday November second, 25 year old police officer James Jones was off duty and in plain clothes buying food in front of the Putt Putt Bar and Grill when he says Alexander Tesecum came up, stuffed his hand into the vendor's pot, and snatched out a piece of meat without paying for it.
Jones says he identified himself as an officer, and claims that Tesecum then threatened to knock him out, and then took out a 380 pistol, pointed it at the constable and again threatened him. Weeks later, police arrested Tesecum and recovered a licensed 380 pistol with 13 live rounds.
17 days after the encounter, Tesecum was charged with aggravated assault. He appeared in court today where he pleaded not guilty. He gave a different account; he claims they were both drunk, and he bumped into Jones in Putt-Putt and they both pulled guns on each other. Still, the complaint had been made against him, and Tesecum was ordered to be remanded for three months after which he would be eligible for bail.
But he's been holding down the same job for 14 years, and seeing those odds, Tesecum grudgingly changed his plea to guilty, was fined $750 and set free to go. His gun license was suspended for 6 months.
