It's called the Energy and Environment Partnership with Central America and today 150 experts from across the region gathered to discuss renewable energy sources. It's the partnership's 10th forum and its first time in Belize. The partnership is funded by funds from Finland and it seeks to harness wind, solar, sugar and hydropower from this region to create alternative energy sources. It has developed 128 projects and 7 of them are in Belize. Today as the forum opened, Chairman of the steering committee Dr. Markku Nurmi explained that there is much potential in Central America.

Dr. Markku Nurmi, Chairman
"This renewable energy is now a very sexy subject in all around the world. Central America is very rich in renewables, you have very large variety of that because you have lots of sun, lots of rain, lakes also..."

Jules Vasquez,
What we hear about at this event, will be seeing it in 20 to 30 years?

Dr. Markku Nurmi,
"Yes and not only in 20 years, you are going to see today already and with this prices of oil are profitable."

The seminar runs for the next two days culminating in a trip to Belize Brewing Company in Ladyville to discuss energy generation with methane.
