Two were charged but only one MS-13 gang member will stand trial for the murder of 28 year old Gerson Javier Hernandez Ramos. Hernandez-Ramos was stabbed to death inside his apartment on Victoria Street on October 19th of 2006. The house was then set on fire.
19 year old Alex Bautista and 24 year old Andrew Carillo were jointly charged for the murder but today in court – prosecutor Nigel Ebanks entered a nolle pros against Carillo. That meant he was free to go home. His attorney Simeon Sampson said there was never any evidence against him.
12 jurors have been selected and Bautista’s trial should begin tomorrow. Both men are suspected to be members of the notorious Salvadoran gang – the Mara Salvatrucha or MS13.
