When a book is called “Shades of Red”, you might think it’s written by Dean Barrow and that it’s about the many moods of the UDP. But actually this book is written by Krem Radio and TV’s Kalilah Enriquez and it contains her poetry, her radio commentaries and short stories. She says those who think she’s all about the issues will realize she’s got styles upon styles.

Kalilah Enriquez,
“For those who hadn’t read the first book, the biggest surprise would be that I am actually a real person, I am human, I have a range of emotions just like everybody else. I have been through ups and downs like everybody else like normal people do. And for those who are familiar with my work, the biggest surprise would be seeing me write short stories because you might be accustomed to me as a poet and you might also know me as the person who does, ‘my perspective’ but seeing the short stories, I have never published a short story before.

Its a bit funny to hear people listen to it, read the stuff that I write, and ask what was going on in her kind but then when they are able to relate to it and say they really liked the sincerity of your expression when you wrote that poem, I enjoy that response.

Poetry is the medium by which people understand the way a society is feeling at the present time and when we look back, when you look into the future and people in the future look into the past, they will be wondering what were people thinking and feeling and they will read the emotions of a poet, they will read the stories with the themes of the times, they will read things like my perspective and you will understand how people were feeling.”

Kalilah’s new book will be launched tomorrow night at the Bliss. There’s also a DVD and both will be sold everywhere starting on Saturday.
