He is the emperor and she was his empress, but she is dead and now he is a convicted killer. Well known reggae entertainer Louie Ganzie was this evening convicted of murder. It took a jury of 12 three hours to convict Ganzie for the January murder of his common-law wife Takeisha Keisha Sutherland. Sutherland was stabbed as many as 21 times inside her home where she was with her two small children. Police say Ganzie killed Sutherland in a jealous rage because the two were estranged. In his own defense, Ganzie denied he was at the scene.
But the 9 men and 3 women didn’t buy it and they took 3 hours to reach a unanimous verdict. When the verdict was delivered, Ganzie just stood in the accused box and showed no reaction to the decision. But Debbie Peters did have quite a reaction. She is Keisha Sutherland’s mom and she told Keith Swift she’s been waiting a year for the news.
Debbie Peters, Mother of Murder Victim
“I get what I wanted, justice so once they found him guilty, that is what I wanted because I know he did it. No one else could have come in and do it.”
Keith Swift,
What do you want to happen to him?
Debbie Peters,
“Well just give him his time which is supposed to spend. Just give him what he deserves. I don’t want them to kill him or nothing because I am not looking for revenge. I just want justice.”
Keith Swift,
Does this make it any better?
Debbie Peters,
“Well no it won’t bring back my daughter but I feel free that he is getting what he deserves.”
Ganzie will be sentenced on December 17th. The DPP’s office hasn’t decided if it will seek the death penalty. If they don’t, Ganzie will receive an automatic life sentence. Deputy DPP Cheryl Lynn Branker Taitt was the prosecutor. Ganzie was defended by attorneys Dickie and Darrel Bradley.
