He was one of four men who cut open a 2 3/4 inch bar cell at the Hattieville Prison and escaped two months ago. But freedom for 33-year-old Silk Grass resident and convicted killer Gilbert Requena, did not last long. He was re-captured by police last week. This morning he pleaded guilty to escape and got one year added unto the 18 he was serving for manslaughter. Requena told the court he handed himself into police, but the law said that he was captured.
He also told Magistrate Dorothy Flowers that while on the run he had visited the wife of the man he was convicted of killing and told her he was sorry for the death of her husband. Since the October 16 escape one man remains at large, that is convicted killer Allan Cal.
