...That’s what you’ll be asking yourself after hearing our next story. It is a report on a con artist who simply walked away with over $28,000. The money, the property of thirty - five year old businessman Yuan Ging Situ, the proprietor of the Atlantic Restaurant at mile two and a half on the Northern Highway.
Situ told the police that the man he knows only as Ali came by his establishment around three on Tuesday evening and offered to change the Belizean cash into U.S. currency. Sitru accepted the offer but was told by Ali that he would need to accompany him to a residence in the Belama area. When the men reached the location, situ easily handed over a total of $28,280. Ali then told the unsuspecting businessman to wait for him in the street until he returns with the greenbacks. Well you don’t have to guess what happened next. After waiting for sometime, Situ approached the house, knocked on the door but of course no one answered. Ali never returned with the money and today he is still missing, presumed having a good time.
When 7NEWS called Situ to ask why would he trust an individual who he knows only as Ali and why was he willing give up his money before receiving any cash in return? Situ would not answer any of our questions only saying that the matter is now in police hands. Situ’s wife however did speak to us. She said the reason why her husband trusted the man they know only as Ali is because he had helped them in the past exchange currencies without any incident.
Belize City police say they have no leads in this case but are investigating and seeking Ali for questioning but they suspect that like his namesake, this one is faster than a butterfly.
