There was an armed robbery of the St. Francis Xavier Credit Union in San Pedro Town this morning. At 9:40 am, three men – one of them with a pistol - stormed into the credit union, overpowered the security guard and held up the cashier. Within two minutes they had made off with ten thousand dollars, and departed on bicycles. From there they got in a boat and left on the seas. It’s a quite stunning assault, particularly for the small, usually peaceful island town and today second in charge of Eastern Division Chester Williams discussed it.

Sr. Supt. Chester Williams,
“Sometime this morning three armed men held up the credit union and escaped with about ten thousand dollars of Belize currency in cash. The ADU personnel have been dispatched. We have the Coast Guard, likewise, who are involved in the investigation. We understand the culprits may have escaped through the sea in boats so we are looking into that investigation.”

San Pedro police are reviewing security camera video to see if they can make any positive identification.
