They were accused of one of the most heinous cases of child molestation we’ve reported on and a jury this evening convicted 36 year old Beverly Simpson brown and her common law husband 35 year old Wilfred Gillett. Simpson, who was the girl’s baby-sitter – was accused of holding down the 9 year old while Gillett, her common her husband, raped the child. Gillett was charged for six counts of unlawful carnal knowledge and Simpson with 6 counts of abetment to carnal knowledge. After deliberating for 2 hours, the jury returned with guilty verdicts for defendants on five of the six counts. Simpson was found guilty of an additional charge of indecent assault.
The child took the stand and told the court that the events occurred at brown’s home on 6 occasions between April 28th and May 21st of 2006. They will be sentenced by Justice Troadio Gonzalez next Monday which is January 21st.
