The St. Francis Xavier Parish in Corozal has issued the rare press release, asking Corozalenos to be on the lookout for stolen items – some of them sacred. It comes after a series of robberies targeting 3 schools and 3 churches in the parish over the past two months. And the thieves haven’t been keeping anything sacred! They went to the wall and ripped off the bronze tabernacle which contains the vessel with consecrated hosts.
And incredibly this sacred tabernacle was then cut into pieces and sold to a local metal dealer. Those have been recovered and handed over to the police. They also stole a gold plated chalice with precious stones and vandalized another – both at St. Francis Xavier. Police are investigating, but no arrests have been made.
