Police Commissioner Gerald Westby and the head of Eastern Division Allen Whylie are out of the country officially attending a gang summit in Los Angeles,Ccalifornia. That’s not exactly big news but what happened to Whylie yesterday is. As reported in Los Angeles area television and newspapers outlets, on Tuesday ACP Whylie in the company of a U.S. marshal made a stop at an auto parts store in North Hollywood to buy an antenna. But as Whylie and the U.S. officer were about to enter the establishment, they were met at the entrance by a fleeing thief. That’s right they had walked in on a hold up and robbery.
Whylie told KABC-TV, ‘I couldn’t believe that a robbery was unfolding before my very eyes.” According to Whylie, the U.S. marshal ordered the suspect to stop but instead the man armed with a knife lunged forward and the U.S. marshal responded by firing his weapon, fatally wounding the culprit.
While his name has not been released, during a press conference Lieutenant Kyle Jackson, said they believe the suspect is the criminal known only as the green skeleton bandit who reportedly had been terrorizing people in the North Hollywood Area. The man held up several businesses while wearing a sweatshirt with a green skeleton design and a skull mask. Whylie told the press, "I heard Los Angeles was a very rough place but I’m certain I won’t be faced with a similar situation perhaps when I come again.”
Both Whylie and Westby are expected to return home on Friday.
