Saturday will be observed as International Women’s Day and from the beginning of the week there have been activities countrywide acknowledging the labours and accomplishments of women. The Police Department got its turn yesterday to celebrate the over one hundred women who work there. On Wednesday, they were taken on a tours across western Belize. They were also addressed by their Senior Command the acting Commissioner of Police Maureen Leslie. She told them peers that while it is all good to enjoy the occasion, it is equally important to remember why there is a need for them to take a break. For at least one day put a hold on all the hard work, nurture and care that women do twenty four seven without even thinking about their own needs.

Maureen Leslie, Acting Police Commissioner
“We are women first okay and we must not forget that because sometimes we are so busy, we do not take care of ourselves alright. I think down the road we will have a social day where we will have in two or three different doctors to come in and give us the works. You know, the breast exam, the pap smears, the full works instead of going out on a tour we spend that day on the health part of it.”

Corporal Joan Grinage and WPC Sharmaine Yorke and office employee Jermaine Bradley were recognized for their service to law enforcement.
