Today another grown man was taken to court for having sexual relations with a child. The accused molester is 37-year-old Belize City fisherman Joseph Vacarro and the victim is a 13-year-old schoolgirl. The common law husband and father of three young children has been charged with unlawful carnal knowledge and denied bail.
Around 2:45 on Tuesday afternoon, a team of officers went to a home in Rhaburn’s Alley where they found the minor putting on her clothes and the accused wearing only his underwear. Both the girl and the man were taken to the police station. In the presence of the minor’s mother, the 13 year old told authorities that the day before she had sexual intercourse with Joseph Vacarro.
This morning Joseph Vaccarro appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb McKenzie. While he did not admit to the crime, he told the court that he knew the child for a year. He added that he needs to go home to his family because he is their sole provider. However the police prosecutor Sergeant Ludwig Castillo objected to bail saying because the victim is of a tender age the accused may try to interfere with her while on her way to school.
Chief Magistrate McKenzie then told Vacarro that although it is just an allegation being made against him and there is no proof at this time, she will deny him bail because the prosecutor’s grounds are justifiable. Joseph Vacarro who was undefended was then remanded to the Hattieville Prison for three weeks.
The minor was medically examined and the doctor has certified that she was carnally known.
