Hundreds of essays from across the Caribbean were submitted but only four students were chosen – and awarded college scholarships from the Motorola Company. One of the winners is Denise Logan – a fourth form student at the Orange Walk Technical High School. The essay competition was open to the sons and daughters of police officers in the Caribbean. Logan won a US$5,000 scholarship. Motorola’s Miami based Sales Manager for Central America presented it to her yesterday.
David Archilla, Motorola Sales Manager
“It is my pleasure to announce one of the four winners of the scholarship fund of this year to Denise Logan of Belize.”
Denise Logan, Scholarship Recipient
“I feel very fortunate to be standing here today to accept this much needed scholarship to further my education after 2 wonderful years of study at Orange Walk Technical High. The award I am receiving today represents a world of opportunity not only to me but also to my family. I cannot thank God enough.”
David Archilla,
“The ACP and Motorola’s scholarship fund is targeted to the sons and daughters of police officers of the 24 associated countries and what we wanted to do was somehow encourage these students to continue their education, be it in engineering, finance – whatever it is they want to pursue.”
Logan has not decided where she’ll continue her education but the scholarship is only valuable for schools in the Caribbean, Canada, and the United States. The other three winners are from Bahamas and Barbados.
