He bit off his neighbour’s ear and Santiago Estrada was tried and convicted of maim and sentenced to serve 5 years in jail. But Estrada appealed and today he found out that instead of maim –he should have been charged for wounding. That is because he only bit off a piece of Jackson’s ear. The incident occurred in Corozal Town on July 18th 2004. Estrada and James Jackson got in an argument and left the bar. Jackson says that he went home where Estrada later showed up with a machete. He says Estrada stormed into his home and attacked him with the machete.
And though he was charged for the wrong crime – he still did commit a crime and so Estrada wasn’t sent home because he did admit to the crime and so he was sentenced to 1 year in prison which he began serving today. Estrada had been convicted earlier this year and appealed. He was released on bail pending his appeal.
