One man is in the KHMH tonight under police guard after a wild and lawless spree in the city this afternoon. This man in the grey t-shirt, identified to us by police as Mata Obi from Dangriga was apprehended at mile 12 on the Western Highway after a shootout with the cops.
It all started around 3:30 on Cleghorn Street

when he held up and robbed a woman of her car, a black Nissan Altima. Police were responding, when they received a call about a collision in front of the Alliance Bank near the KHMH where the black car crashed into a Camry and a Prado and just kept going. Police set chase unto the Western Highway where around mile 8, Obi opened fire. Police responded and the chase ended at mile 12 where Obi ran off the road and landed in a swamp.
Police found him getting out of the car with a firearm which had run out of live rounds. But that, it seems, is only because one of his clips fell and he couldn’t find it. Police did find it, and have taken that along with the empty clip and a nine milimeter pistol in as evidence.
Obi faces a number of charges for the armed robbery, the car theft, the collisions, and not least of all, shooting at the police.
