Four days after Dangriga police found the badly decomposed body of Guatemalan national Jose Angel Calate, a post mortem has confirmed that the victim was killed after he had been struck in the head with a blunt instrument. Police made the gruesome discovery around seven thirty on Friday night when they were called out to an old airstrip by mile eight and a half at the junction of the Hummingbird Highway and the Coastal Road. There, inside an abandoned concrete building and under a sheet of zinc police saw the lifeless body. It was lying faced up and clad in a long black pants with no shirt.
Authorities are now combing the area to try find out what happened. Police say that at this time they do not know why the victim was killed or who is responsible but that Calate was last seen drinking with a group of co workers several days before his body was found.
While documents found on the body indicate that Jose Angel Calate is from Melchor de Mencos in neighbouring Guatemala he had been living in Hope Creek Village in the Stann Creek District for awhile.
