Where there’s one hand grenade, there’s usually two. That hagging intuition has been haunting Belize City residents since mid may when there was a grenade attack on the Mayflower Street neighbourhood. And tonight, police have that second grenade. It was taken off the street on Saturday a result of the ongoing operation cycle breaker.
Details from the department are surprisingly scarce – considering it is such a big find, but this is the best we’ve been able to find out. On Saturday, a Special Patrol Unit searched Raymond “Killa” Gentle and came up with 30 grammes of crack cocaine. That would amount to a drug trafficking charge and rather than face any time behind it, it seems Gentle was ready to work out a deal: he agreed to lead police to some heavy weaponry to have the trafficking charge dropped.
He handed over police to what’s known as a fragmentation hand grenade. Police have not let the media see it, but we are told it bears similarities to the one that was used in the Mayflower Street attack. Police reportedly also recovered an SLR rifle which is an assault weapon in the operation, but there is no confirmation of this.
