Was eighteen year old UB Student Juan Baeza intentionally killed or did he die while his school mates tried to save him? That’s the question police are trying to answer. Today Orange Walk Police arrested eighteen year old UB Student Izra Zetina and charged him with murder.

Initial reports are that the victim and the accused are friends and that last week Thursday the students including another school mate nineteen year old Gaspar Vasquez were drinking heavily in Belize City and later that day the young men, all residents of orange walk- hitched a ride in the pan of a pickup truck to take them back home.

The information is that an altercation started between Baeza, Zetina and Vasquez and as a result Baeza accidentally fell and knocked his head on some crates. Instead of taking him to the hospital, it is reported that Zetina and Vasquez took their friend to his home where we understand family members tried to revive him. But he had to be rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital where he died on arrival.

Today Orange Walk Police told 7NEWS that further investigation into the tragic incident may result in the charge of murder being reduced to manslaughter. Authorities say the information is that Baeza who was intoxicated tried to jump out of the back of the pick truck while they were being given a ride to Orange Walk Town but Zetina and Vasquez tried to hold him back and in so doing Baeza accidentally feel and hit his head.

On Tuesday eighteen year old Izra Zetina will be escorted over to the Orange Walk Magistrate Court where he will be formally arraigned either for the charge of murder or manslaughter.
