Armed robberies and home invasions continue to be the modus operandi of criminals looking for easy prey. There are three more violent attacks to report tonight.
The first was on Sunday night in Gales Point. 35 year old Francisco Perez says he heard a knock on his door at 11:45 pm and when he opened it, three masked men forced themselves inside. There was a struggle during which Perez was hit above the right eye and left shoulder with a handgun. He then ran to his brother’s house next door. When the coast was clear, he returned home and found his 60 horsepower Yamaha outboard motor engine missing and a Smart phone.
And also in the south, on Monday afternoon 46 year old Jose Ramos was on the way to his farm at mile one and a half on the Southern Highway when two black men approached him. They snatched a plastic bag containing a.22 pistol belonging to his boss and $120. The men then fled in the direction of Dangriga.
And the third assault was also in the south, this one at mile 31 on the Hummingbird Highway where men armed with knives and toy guns pulled off a robbery. Christian Cruz says yesterday he was inside a store when a Hispanic man entered the store and queried the price of a piece of furniture. About that same time, two more Hispanic men entered. They had masks on their faces. One was armed with a knife and the other with a toy gun.
They demanded money and forced Cruz into the house. They then stole an assortment of phones, jewelry, phone cards, and cash from a shop – which is inside the house. They fled with about $2,686 in cash and valuables. They ran into some bushes and made good their escape. Police are investigating all three robberies.
