Elisa Chan, the Belize City waitress wanted by police for a savage knife attack turned herself in to police this morning. She went to court teary-eyed this afternoon, where she was formally arraigned for the attempted murder, dangerous harm and use of deadly means of harm against twenty three year old Khadijah Castillo another Belize City waitress. Khadijah Castillo continues to recover from her injuries at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where reports say she will remain for the next three weeks.
Castillo was attacked around 10:45 on Tuesday night as she was on her way home from work at the Smoky Mermaid Restaurant. It happened on Jaguar Street when a black car with no license plate stopped beside her. That is when a young woman, allegedly Elisa Chan, got out of the front passenger side, took out what it is believed was a kitchen knife and repeatedly stabbed Castillo. After the butchering, she got back into the vehicle which drove off. The young mother of a two year old had been stabbed six times to her left arm, left rib cage, right hand and lower left abdomen. We understand that one of the deep cuts to her hand has been classified as a self defence wound that she received as she tried to grab the knife. Castillo is also suffering from internal bleeding.
But what did Khadijah Castillo do to make Elisa Chan try to kill her? Well it’s what they call “man-business.” Our reports are that Castillo had a relationship with a man which ended two years ago but she continued to be his friend. But now that man is now seeing Elisa Chan and she did not approve of the relationship and that is supposedly why she stabbed Khadijah Castillo.
And while that’s one side of the story, there’s of course, the other side. This afternoon as she watched Elisa Chan go to court, a friend of the accused spoke off camera to our court reporter Anita Nembhard. She said that Chan who is also the mother of a young daughter is the one who has been victimized and that is what led to the attack.

“What I want to say is that there are always two sides to a story and Elisa didn’t just attack that young lady and stabbed her. This has been an ongoing, she was provoked, she was abused, she was lied upon and all of that led up to what happened Tuesday night.”

“She has a two year old daughter.”

Do you know what will happen to her now that her mother will be in jail, at least for a short period?

“I guess her dad will take care of her.”
Elisa Chan works at Celebrity Restaurant. This afternoon when twenty two year old Elisa Chan appeared before Senior Magistrate Dorothy Flowers where no plea was taken. Elisa Chan, who is represented by attorney Ellis Arnold, was remanded to Hattieville Prison and she was ordered to remain there until October seventh when she is scheduled to reappear in court. But that may not happen because her attorney will reportedly apply to the Supreme Court for bail tomorrow.
