A Salvadoran man sits in jail tonight after being charged for breaking into the home of Minister of State Michael Hutchinson. The burglary occurred sometime between twelve thirty and two thirty on Monday morning. Court reports are that the Minister was awakened by his daughter who told him that there was someone inside the home. A check revealed that a person had broken into the house by removing glass louvers from a window inside the daughter’s room.

No one was found but the burglar had taken the Minister’s $800 black and orange razor cell phone and that’s what led police to the thief. Twenty nine year old Roberto Carlos Alvarez was found with the phone. This morning when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb–McKenzie he not only admitted to the burglary but stated, “that there were many pieces of jewellery in the home but I only wanted the cell phone.”

Now he faces up to ten years in jail but he won’t be sentenced until Friday. For tonight though Roberto Carlos Alvarez remains on remand at the Hattieville Prison.
