Alleged serial rapist Leroy Gomez is still at large this evening. Police believe he remains near familiar territory in the Lake Independence area. And that’s where they’ve been focusing intensive manhunts, that continued up to this evening, but still, they’ve come up with nothing. This morning our 7NEWS team caught the Police Department’s men in black on one of their searches and Jacqueline Godwin has details.
Jacqueline Godwin Reporting,
Belize City police continue to comb the neighbourhoods targeted by serial rapist Leroy Gomez. Still, he has eluded capture and while police continue to get information, none of the leads have brought them closer to their prime suspect. Today two mobile patrols were in the Lake Independence area searching high bush, abandoned buildings and taking to residents but it seems as if Leroy Gomez is always one step ahead. The police have also been exploring the possibility that Leroy Gomez is being assisted and that is why he has managed to stay out of sight especially during the daytime.
Jocelyn Lamb, Area Resident
“I do not know why they feel that we are harbouring the rapist because what I am saying is that those people are giving them wrong information because my son are here and nobody else comes here and when they come they are always doing something out of the way to my kids.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
Do you know Leroy Gomez?
Jocelyn Lamb,
“I know Leroy Gomez from when I used to live on Oleander Street and

we moved from there about twenty years.”
Since then Jocelyn Lamb claims she has not seen or heard from Leroy Gomez. Lamb who is the mother of two young daughters says there is no reason why she would help to hide a man who preys on women. But now she says it’s her family that’s being preyed upon by the police.
Jocelyn Lamb,
“They went into the house and they punched my son in his chest. He just graduated from fourth form at Edward P. Yorke. My son is not no murderer. I need them to stop this, I need them to stop this because they are spoiling my reputation and thing around here.
Saturday morning when they came they went into my house and when they got into the House I heard something flinge down in the house. When my daughter

came to clear up the house after they gone, the TV was on the floor in two. The TV is still there in two. We haven’t even gone and report that and they are still coming back. They haven’t found what they are looking for and they are still coming back. Leroy doesn’t live here, I am not Leroy’s mom, I am not nothing to Leroy. I just know Leroy when I lived out so 20 years ago. We don’t know Leroy like that.
They just run in the house, gun all under the house bottom in the back of the yard. Everybody had guns. If it was 15 of them, 15 of them had guns. I am tired of this.”
Jacqueline Godwin,
And you understand they have a job to do.
Jocelyn Lamb,
“I know they have a job to do but do it in the right way. Do it the right way, don’t come and punch him in the chest. You come, you do your search, you don’t find nothing, you go about your business. Why would you knock him? He is not his father and he knows exactly who knocks him and we won’t done with this because we will make sure they see to it because they won’t be coming around and punching my son and getting away with it because this is lone fool because we noh have no Leroy here."
But where is Leroy Gomez? Police continue to look for the answer all through Lake Independence. Jacqueline Godwin for 7NEWS.
