In May of 2006, Ryan Horne was accused of one of the most savage murders we’ve ever reported. He allegedly killed two sisters, one 18, the other 17, Sandra and Rosa Esquivel at their home on Euphrates Avenue. In what appears to have been a deranged attack, Horne, who is a mental patient stabbed them repeatedly. The question at the time wasn’t so much whether he had done it, but whether he was aware of what he had done, that is whether he was fir to stand trial.

This evening Ryan Horne was found guilty of murder by insanity – meaning he wasn’t in his right senses when he stabbed Sandra Esquivel 13 times and stabbed her sister Rosa Esquivel an additional 45 times with an eight inch blade in May Of 2006. But that won’t get him out of jail, in fact that earned him an automatic life sentence at the Kolbe Foundation. Horne confessed to the crimes but his attorneys Alifa Elrington and B.Q. Pitts called witnesses called two witnesses to back up their defense.

Horne gave a statement from the dock in which he said he remembered nothing from the day of the murders in May of 2006. The jury consisted of 8 men and 4 women. It is unclear if he’ll receive treatment for his mental condition while at the Hattieville Prison.
