On Thursday the Prime Minister is expected to take the amended Business Tax Act back to the House – slapping a 24.5% business tax on telecom companies. And while the moment of truth will come in the legislature – the battle over who’s justified and who’s greedy is being played out in the media. Telemedia has been advertising for weeks explaining its position and last night, government’s information czar Delroy Cuthkelvin struck back. It’s a lively commercial dialogue – or at least it is on Channel 7.
Government says Channel 5 – which is owned by Telemedia – has refused to air its ads. In a government release issued this evening- government accuses Channel 5 of censorship. The government of Belize says it has lodged a complaint with the Belize Broadcasting Authority.
