He is accused of calling his ex in the early morning and threatening to burn down her home – and even though he never burnt it down, 29 year old Nathaniel Thomas Jr. has been charged for arson. But don’t get us wrong, it’s not like he didn’t try – it’s just that he didn’t succeed – and if it weren’t for the quick response of the Fire Department, he might have.

Kyra Craig told police that on Sunday morning at 1:00 – she was at her home on Raccoon Street Extension sleeping with her common law husband when she claims Thomas called and threatened her. About an hour later she heard crackling and when she looked outside saw a tall blaze near the bathroom. She claims to have also heard footsteps running in the bushes behind the home. Craig opened the bathroom door and threw a wet blanket on the fire and that was the end of it. The blaze had only damaged a bathroom door valued at one hundred twenty dollars and a few items of clothing.

But that was enough and today in court Thomas appeared before Chief Magistrate, Margaret Gabb-McKenzie where he was slapped with one count of arson and one count of damage to property. No plea was taken because it is an indictable matter, meaning that it is intended for the Supreme Court. Chief Magistrate Gabb-McKenzie granted him bail of $4,000 and adjourned the case until February 13th. But while he was granted bail he couldn’t meet it and Thomas was remanded.
