Since July of last year – Las Vegas Casino boss George Hardie Jr. and three of his security guards have been locked down in a Mexican jail. They were charged for an altercation that began in the Las Vegas Casino in the Corozal Free Zone that spilled over the border to Mexico which is when Hardie and his security guards were arrested. Their crimes were attempted murder of a Mexican – even though he was shot in Belize territory - and the smuggling of firearms into Mexico when they attempted to cross the Mexican border with their 9 milimeter guns.
All four went on trial last month and on Friday they were all convicted.
George Hardie Jr., who is an American national, was sentenced to 10 years and 6 months along with security guards Curlin Thompson and David Gomez. The third security guard Martin Miller was sentenced to 7 years in jail. His only charge was attempted murder as the smuggling of firearms in Mexico charge was withdrawn.
