A police constable and corporal are being praised today for their heroic actions after they came to the rescue of a security guard who was held up by a pair of gunmen around twelve ten this morning on the Northern Highway. Corporal Randy Sanchez and Police Constable Martin Bahadur were on mobile patrol near two and a half miles on the Northern Highway when they saw a robbery in progress on the roadside.
A dark complexioned man dressed in a red shirt, and a three quarter jeans pants had a gun held to the chest of a security guard while the gunman’s accomplice dressed in a brown colour t–shirt and dark three quarter jeans pants was searching the victim. Corporal Sanchez and Police Constable Bahadur approached the pair of thieves.
But as the cops advanced towards their suspects the gunman pointed his weapon in their direction. However instead of backing off, Cpl. Sanchez and PC Bahadur first identified themselves as police officers and then in attempt to disarm the gunman fired shots in his direction. The gunman bumped into his accomplice in the confusion and the collision caused the weapon to drop to the ground.
That is when both assailants ran and jumped into a four door grey color Saturn car that bore license plates number C–25724. The vehicle then sped off but with the cops in hot pursuit, the fleeing thieves did not get very far. When it was stopped, the men inside the vehicle were identified as Belize City residents twenty six year old Anthony Sabido, twenty six year old Derrick Munnings and twenty one year old Jason Wade. It was then discovered that Sabido, who is believed to have been the gunman, had been shot in the leg. While Sabido was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial hospital for treatment, Munnings and Wade were taken over to the police station.
When the police interviewed the Haitian security guard twenty four year old Isaac Samuels he told them that he was walking along the Northern Highway he was approached by two men. According to the employee of AAA security firm, as one of men pointed a shot gun at his chest and ordered him to give up his gun, the other man searched him and took a thirty eight revolver with live rounds from his waist area. The weapon is the property of AAA security firm.
Besides catching Anthony Sabido, Derrick Munnings and Jason Wade the police also managed to retrieve from them a twelve gauge shot gun, the stolen thirty eight revolver, two twelve gauge cartridges and two thirty eight live rounds. The get away vehicle, the grey Saturn car is also being held by police as exhibit.
Anthony Sabido who has since been discharged from the KHMH, Derrick Munnings and Jason Wade are all expected to be charged with a number of offences and all three are expected to be arraigned in Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
