And as they are breaking ground at Marion Jones, last night someone was breaking locks at the Sports council
Belize City police are following up on leads that they believe will lead them to capture the burglars who broke into the City Centre sometime very early this morning.
Today seven news caught up with Director of the National Sports Council Anthony Michael who told us how the thieves managed to gain access into the building despite the fact that there was not only a security guard on duty, but a care taker as well.
Anthony Michael – Sports Director
"I was met by one of my security officers which is privately employed and one of my caretakers who indicated that there was an entry upstairs. Upon visiting up there we realized that the storeroom for the volleyball federation and the three padlocks were actually cut by some clippers and our rear door to the back of the civic, a chain and padlock was indeed cut and that was where the thief or thieves made their escape with the goods out of the volleyball storeroom."

"What was stolen?"
Anthony Michael – Sports Director
"According to Alan Sharp who is the president of the Volleyball Association it was almost twenty cases of beer, some assortment of liquor, a microwave, some equipment volleyball bags and stuff that he uses to store his equipment, a significant loss that is close to two thousand dollars in losses. It is so sad when you have thief or thieves breaking into one of your sporting complex where sport is one of the integral part of reducing crime, a healthier living in your society."
Jacqueline Godwin
"Do you believe that whoever committed his crime is familiar with the layout of the building and knew exactly what would have been in this storeroom? "
Anthony Michael – Sports Director
"Ah, certainly because we have some other, we have rest rooms and other storerooms upstairs where nothing is being kept in but it is still padlocked so you would have expected them to be walking around and breaking all of the padlocks and stuff to see what was in these rooms but they went particularly to one room and broke it."
_In other sports news, the female softball team which left to participate in the games in Venezuela is expected back in the country on Wednesday.
